Our Long Trip

Well, this last weekend was the beginning of spring break for Mark. We took advantage of that time by renting a van and driving all the way to California in one night. We left Friday afternoon around 4:30 and got to our destination by 8:30 a.m. Mark and I took turns driving. This was a difficult and tiring thing to do.

This is the house we stayed in while we were in California:

While there, the girls were able to learn to saddle, ride and unsaddle a horse. We picked lemons and avocados from their orchard:

We went spent one day as tourists because the weather turned bad so we could not work the cows on the day we had planned. We drove down the coast and went to the Santa Monica Pier, just walking around and looking. It was SO windy!

We continued driving and drove through Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, but then Mark saw the place he has always wanted to go to. . The La Brea Tarpits. Being a science teacher he felt it was his duty and our "torment" :) to go to this museum. We humored him. It had some interesting information.

After leaving there we drove through Hollywood and then stopped at a beach (the wind was still blowing) and took a few pictures. The pictures turned out really well.

The next day the weather improved and we spent the day rounding up and sorting cattle. We had some calves that were not sold in November that needed to be sold before it is time for all the cows to come home. This was our opportunity to do it. The pasture they were on was really green and very mountainous.

I'm not sure what I expected to see when we went to California, but it was a good trip all in all. We left on Monday night and made it to Amy's house in Utah by 8:30 (or so) the next morning. We borrowed a DVD player from a friend of mine and found that this was a definite life saver for Mayli. She would have been bored out of her mind!

Oh, next time I post I will have pictures of Paul! He is here. He got here Monday night from Japan. He had a very stressful and emotionally taxing airplane ride here. Apparently the plane encountered very bad turbulence around Alaska (1 1/2 hours worth). He has been trying to catch up on his sleep, all to no avail. Anyway, he will be here until the 3rd of April. It will be good to visit with him for a little while.

Man, the visit on Saturday seemed so fast and furious that I didn't even think to ask about California. Sorry! It looks like you stayed in a nice place...and it's always nice to see the ocean, I think. Thanks for all the food you made and for helping out. You're great!
